Frederick Drummond
Prophetic Experiences
Frederick Drummond's ministry is the
product of four major spiritual experiences that he had with God over the last
40 plus years.
Conversion.
In
1965, at the age of 18 he heard the gospel of the kingdom for the first time
and was converted that Sunday night during the services of a small Baptist
church that his friend finally convinced him to attend. His was one of those
unique conversions that radically changed him to the core on the spot. Ever
since, he has wanted to share his faith with everyone. This was the first major
spiritual experience of his life.
Spiritual Baptism.
A year later, at the age of 19, the
second one followed. He was asked to read the Scriptures during a special
Saturday evening service at a rather large neighboring Presbyterian church.
Everything was arranged, and that evening he sat in the packed church with the
minister's son on one side of the auditorium, while the white-haired senior
minister of the church and his ministerial friends sat on the other side. When
the time finally came for him to be introduced to read the Scripture, the
white-haired old preacher stood up behind his pulpit, and to his surprise
announced that he was handing the service over to the young Frederick Drummond.
To get the full impact of this announcement on that 19-year old boy who had
never stood up in front of a congregation in his life, you need to understand
him a little better. He wasn't a public speaker. In fact, he was a very fearful
person whose mouth dried up and whose knees literally knocked together whenever
he was asked to speak publicly in class. On top of that, put him in a strange
church with two older ministers and their expectant congregation and you might
begin to understand his dilemma. He jumped to his feet with his Bible in his
hand and made his way to the pulpit at the front of the church, all the way
mumbling under his breath to God, "What am I going to do? I am not a preacher
and now I have to preach to the biggest congregation I have ever seen in my
life!" Then he quickly said to God, "I will do it by faith. Please help me,
God, and I will give you all the glory."
The moment he stood behind that pulpit, turned to his
Scripture reading, and opened his mouth to speak, he became another man. He was
supernaturally empowered from on high - filled with the Holy Ghost in a very
respectable way in that very proper Presbyterian church. At the end of the
service the old white-haired minister took him by the hand and exclaimed to
that 19-year-old boy, "I have never heard such preaching. I have never seen
such power." When he got home later that night and was finally alone, he
thanked God for his new-found anointing and promised to never again question
the power of it to effectively deliver God's Word whenever and wherever He so
desired. This baptism in the Spirit was Frederick's second major spiritual
experience.
Commitment to the Truth.
His third major spiritual experience
with God took place about a year later, in 1967. It was born out of a
burden that God put in his heart to find real answers to hurting people's
problems. He became very frustrated with the shallow solutions to life's
problems in most churches. It seemed as though the universal solution to
people with serious problems was reduced to ostracizing them and sometimes even
throwing them out of their churches to get rid of the embarrassment. He
believed God for more than this.
The experience took place in a little tool shed in his
friend's back yard. He felt the need to be alone with God, went in and
shut the metal door behind him, and fell on his face before his Maker. He
prayed a very dangerous prayer that God heard with far-reaching consequences
that God has required of him to this very hour. He committed his life to
finding out the truth in all things. Yes, that afternoon he made a
covenant with God to seek after the wisdom of Solomon by devoting himself to
seeking the truth according God's Word in everything he would ever experience
and have to go through from that day forward. This was a very
inconvenient resolve that would have far-reaching repercussions, and later in
life would provide the explanation for why he has gone through so many
outrageous experiences. Only God's supernaturally, imported faith in a
man could sustain him in it all.
This was a costly prayer, and he can honestly say that he has
never gone back on it. From that day to this, he has never gone through
anything, whether good or bad, that he did not require himself to seek God's
face for the real answers, for the good of himself and others. Through
everything he has always sought the face of God and His good and acceptable and
perfect will. This prayer set him apart from his peers on a pilgrimage
that few would want to pursue, let alone stick to down through the
decades. Because of it, today he brims with spiritual understanding and
holy wisdom to the glory of Christ and His grace.
A Vision.
The fourth major spiritual experience
in his life was the most unnerving. It is something that he does not
often talk about. It happened 20 years later in 1987 in a motel room in
Utica, NY. He and two prayer partners had been ministering to God for
about six weeks, praying, reading
the Word of God, and sharing as God led them. One afternoon, during a
time of intense prayer, FAD heard in his spirit man, "Come aside to the far end
of the room by the door, because I want to speak to you." He obeyed and
lay prostrate on the ground with his hands at his sides and his eyes shut,
waiting on God.
Something happened that he had never experienced before.
Suddenly he was in the spirit and he saw himself prostrate before someone clad
in sandals whom he could only see from the knees down. He knew Who it was
and what was going on. The voice said, "My son, I have not just called
you to take the Word of faith TO the churches, but I have called you as my
prophet to put the Word of faith IN the churches. This alone will usher
in a great revival." He then said, "Put your hands on my feet, because I
want to anoint them with power." Frederick obeyed. He then said,
"Go tell your companions what has just happened to you, and put your hand on
them and pray for them." He stood up and remained by the door for a
while, trying to convince himself that this did not just happen and that if he
told his companions about it, they would think he had gone off the deep
end. In the end, he obeyed and that began a new ministry for him, one
that would change everything forever.
Of course, like most Christians, FAD has enjoyed numerous, wonderful experiences with God over the last forty plus years, nevertheless these four have helped shape and direct him and his ministry above all others.
